I got a new baby! =^_^=

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 6, 2017, 9:48 AM

I've been fostering cats for a rescue organisation with my friend Fani. Since we joined we've had 4 kittens and 3 adults. One of the adults we unfortunately had to put down, but all the kittens have been adopted. Kittens are so easy to fall in love with, they came in sets of two and had one in each that I could barely let go and considered whether or not to keep myself. In the end I did lett them go though. But then there's the two big boys. One was tame from already and Fani loved him from day one and will be keeping him. Me on the other hand had this very very feral cat. He was captutred at 7 months old, no real human contact. Flew of the walls first time we let him out of the carrier they brought him in. He was in the roof! I tucked him in a towel to calm him, trim his nails, and look over his health.

But he was such a sweetheart, I believe he bit a tiny bit that first day, but never since (well, not me, Fani can't touch him though ;) )
In the first month he had this amuisng tactics: If I can't see you I'm safe:

Though he hiss at us if we try to touch him he is super friendly with the other cats and animals, even Eevee accepts him! (She hates other cats)
He slowely became familiar with me and let me handle ham, pet him and he even purrs; but only durring night/mornings while in my bedroom. No one else gets to touch him still, runs if they look at him from across the room.

Now Fani is moving out tomorrow, to get shorter way to her new job. She was the one registered with the rescue organisation and I'm not sure if I'm ready to join myself, it carries a good bit of stress and I don't handle stress well, big part of the reason I don't have a job even. So I need a break first.
So this cutey of mine whom only lets me handle him, but is still far from tame, had to go to a new foster home soon. On Wednesday I brought them to the vet for vacination and health check, and to my surprize they could also do the neutering without a special apointment for it... That ment he was ready, he was done... If I were to keep him now he'd be done with the rescue organisation, nothing more needs to go through them. Just had to pay the adoption fee and sign the contract, and they were coming the next day to sign of on the last two kittens anyway so even less stressfull! So I made the decition then and there, while holding his limp body in my hands after his surgery, I can't, I just can't let you go! He is mine now, mine forever =^_^=

We signed him up as Aries, but I called him Ari. But I have decided that I'd rather give him a better name.
So this is Loke =^_^=
Who interestingly enough responds better to Loke than his old name even though I just renamed him two days ago O_o
I think it was his name from the start, I just hadn't called him by it =^_^=
I actually did consider it early, if I keep him he will be named Loke =)

He is now about 9 months old, and I got to rubb his belly for the first time the night I had decided to keep him. He has a long way to go, but we have all the time in the world =^_^=

Sorry for the low quality photos. They are all from my phone.

You have some very pretty babies there...I think kittens are very cute, and this is coming from a dog person!

Anyone who loves and tends for cats is a real human being in my books. You'll get there with Loke, if it takes forever. Bless you both.

Feral cats need lots of love and understanding. You are a wonderful person to rescue feral cats.

They become loving pets if given the chance =^_^=
And when they do purr instead of hiss it is so rewarding! =D

I may be wrong, but I believe they do that indeed because they like to feel safe, and therefore they like to smell odors that agree with them. Must have liked this jacket's odor or yours. It's a way of resting. Cats, as many animals in the wild (wolves for instance) need to rest for long periods of time in places they feel safe in order to alleviate the stress.
It's also something I've seen in cats brought in from the wild young (before 1 year of age) at around the 1 to 2 year mark. Like some kind of deep seated natural intra specie relation. Then it gradually disappears... :-)

Hahaha! Almost forgot (actually did and had to coma back! lol) to thank you for the lama!

He hid in any spot I put him down =^_^=
He just pressed himself to the ground and crawled to the first spot he felt safe, which was any place he could put his head in ;)
And then he could stay there for hours O_o

He still does the pressing towards the ground when I put him down, or prefferabely rubb against my other cats in a cute and fery friendly mater =^_^=

Wow... extreme! Different from what I've experienced. Must have really lived some unhappy times, to put it mildly.
One of mine did that to get his whiskers away from disturbance. Took me a long long time to figure it out...
Maybe it's the noise for yours if it's not reminiscence or stress.
Anyway, take good care both of you. :-)

He was 7 months old when captured, he was terrified of humans cause he hadn't been touched before.
Now he has learned that humans = food and cuddles are good =^_^=
He purrs more than my two tame ones when petting him, but usually on the bed in the morining, for some reason he don't hiss then but does anywhere else in the house =P

What a wonderful story. We had an adopted stray in our family when I was a child. She was just like how you describe Loke. She only let the family (and the boy across the street) touch her and no one else. I'm glad your Loke has a good home. There are so many kitties out there that don't have a home or have an abusive home it is really sad. Loke is a gorgeous cat too. I hope he and you continue to love each other for a long time.

Oh she passed many many years ago. She was already 5 years old when I was born and I'm almost 30 now. We still have kitties in the family just new ones. The older of our current two is on my lap atm.

I had a feeling she might have passed since she was with you in your childhood.
I only had my first cat at age 12. I'm past 30 myself =)

I've had cats in my family almost continuously my whole life. My family consists of 4 crazy cat people and 4 cats. Though two of those cats and one of the humans doesn't live with us (my older sister and her cats). I can't even imagine life without cats in the family.

I've had so many pets in my life. Our house was practically a zoo when I was a kid from all the critters we would catch and keep in tanks. I think my favorite out of all the tank animals was the hamsters. They were so gosh darn cute!

Oh silly me I don't know why I didn't share this earlier. This gallery folder holds all my photos of my cats over the years on dA.

He is, but he is a stinker.  I think he might have been mistreated when he was a baby.  He isn't very affectionate and doesn't hardly like to be petted.  He is a bit more affectionate now than he was when I first got him 3 years ago though.  I love him so much!

Sounds a lot like a kitty I had that passed a few months ago. She had been misstreated too. She loved being petted though, but was so insecure she could go from purring to bitting in a splitt second D=

Rory does that too!  But last night for the first time ever he actually crawled up on my and headbutted my head and then crawled on my shoulder.  I started crying!  He has never done that before.  The headbutting, yes, but never crawled on my shoulder.  He loves me!

Oh wow, that's great!! <3

I think I just put us back a month... I got a dog today, a miniature dog. Loke was not amused ^^;
I haven't let them go close yet, but when loke saw him from a great distance he puffed up and started growling D=
Aparantly he didn't like dogs ^^;

Aww, well bless his heart!  When I got Rory, I was at my daughter's house waiting to get into an apartment, so he was with my daughter's dog for 3 months.  So now about every weekend Mena (she is a little black Cocker Spaniel) comes over for a sleepover so he has someone to play with and groom!  They are cute to watch together!

My biggest cat is very currious about him though =)
He keeps following him around and watch his every move without any hissing or growling. But he isn't ready to go all the way up to him yet =P

I have a new kitten too since August of last year. I am still trying to tame her but I'm still having a hard time with that especially when it comes to trimming her claws and giving her a bath  xD

A friend has a cat who is tame as can be but it takes two to clip his nails ;)
He hates that even more than baths O_o

My Loke is not tame, but once I have a hold I can clip his nails without too much fuss =P
Cats can be weird that way =^_^=
